This statement is taken for granted in the neurosciences, but may be meaningless, trivial, or controversial for anthropologists, other social scientists, and philosophers who study behavior, perception, and symbolism in virtual ignorance of well over a century of neuroscientific research. Yet, this statement has profound implications for how one goes about the study of behavioral and other phenomena of interest to social science, not the least of which is the necessity for a developmental frame for research, interpretation, and understanding."
